The Black Crowes performing Soul Singing

The Black Crowes released “Soul Singing” in 2001 on Lions, produced by Don Was. Chris Robinson sings like a Georgia preacher who wandered into a rock club and decided to stay, while brother Rich lays down a groove you feel in your hips first. The Robinson brothers famously fought about almost everything, which makes a song about lifting voices together either ironic or deeply hopeful. Siblings, am I right? Through a Christian lens, it sounds like a revival in denim. Soul singing isn’t about perfect pitch; it’s about letting what’s inside come out loud and unashamed. The psalmist never asked for polished. He asked for joyful noise. Turn it up loud.

“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.” Psalm 100:1
