David Gornoski, host of A Neighbor’s Choice, stopped by the 1819 News studio in Birmingham to talk about the current state of politics, and he brought the conversation somewhere most political talk never goes: back to Jesus.

Turn on any channel and you’ll see the same pattern. Each side points at the other as the source of every problem. If only we could defeat them, silence them, or remove them, everything would be fixed. It’s an old story, and it never works. The anger just finds a new target.

David’s answer is incarnational truth. Truth isn’t only an idea we argue about. In Christ, truth became flesh, walked among us, ate with outcasts, healed the sick, and refused to meet violence with violence. He didn’t take power by force. He gave Himself away.

That’s the key to our political mess. If we imitate Christ instead of imitating each other’s anger, the whole cycle breaks. We stop looking for someone to blame. We start seeing the person across the aisle, or across the street, as a neighbor. We choose persuasion over coercion, service over control, and love over the urge to win at any cost.

That may sound too simple for problems this big, but every lasting change in history started with people living differently, not shouting louder. Imagine a Birmingham, an Alabama, and an America where people treated their opponents the way Jesus treated His. Most of what we fight about would look very different.
