song of the day…
“And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” — Colossians 1:17, KJV
The older I get, the more I appreciate how deeply our lives touch one another.
A conversation stays with us for years. A song brings back someone we love. A kindness we received in a difficult season becomes the kindness we offer someone else. A person who once helped us find our footing may never know how many other people their encouragement eventually reached.
When I think about everything being connected in the Spirit, this is where I begin: with Christ, through whom creation receives its life, and with the love He calls us to share.
There is more to a person than what we can see in a passing moment. Behind every face is a history. There are prayers, disappointments, hopes, and burdens we know nothing about. Remembering that changes the way we treat each other. The stranger becomes a neighbor. Listening becomes an act of care.
Jesus gave us a beautiful picture of spiritual connection when He spoke of the vine and the branches in John 15. The branches receive their life from the vine. Their fruit grows through that living relationship.
I think about that as a musician.
A song comes alive through relationship: rhythm supporting melody, harmony giving a note a different feeling, silence allowing a phrase to breathe. Each musician has to listen. Sometimes the best contribution is a strong entrance. Sometimes it is making room for someone else.
Faith asks that kind of attention from us, too.
We bring different gifts, different experiences, and different voices. Someone knows how to comfort a grieving friend. Someone can organize a meal, repair a house, teach a child, or write a song that gives language to what another person feels. Those gifts become a blessing when we offer them in love.
Paul’s description of the Church as one body in 1 Corinthians 12 makes this deeply practical. When one member suffers, the others are called to care. When one rejoices, there is room for everyone to share the joy.
That means our spiritual lives reach into ordinary decisions.
How do I speak when I’m frustrated? Can I admit when I’m wrong? Will I keep a promise when keeping it is difficult? Can I pray for someone while respecting the space they need? Am I willing to receive help as freely as I want to give it?
These are places where faith takes shape.
I’m learning that connection also carries responsibility. My words can bring peace into a room or make a hard day harder. My choices affect people I love. Taking care of my own health, keeping commitments, and learning patience can become gifts to others.
And sometimes the faithful thing is quiet.
A prayer offered without an audience. A message of encouragement. A meal shared. An apology given without demanding an immediate response. A boundary respected. A morning spent doing the next good thing.
Romans 8:28 gives me hope in the middle of all this. God can work through the unfinished and painful parts of life for good. I don’t have to pretend I understand every loss to trust that His grace can meet me there.
Some questions remain questions. Faith gives me room to bring them honestly before God. I can seek wisdom, listen to people who care about me, and let understanding grow over time.
Creation itself invites that patient attention. A tree depends on roots we rarely notice. A stream nourishes life beyond the place where we stand watching it. We inherit the work of people who came before us, and our own work will reach people we may never meet.
That makes today matter.
The good we do has somewhere to go.
A little mercy can change the direction of a conversation. A patient response can interrupt an argument. One person’s willingness to ask for help can give another person courage to do the same.
This is part of what I want WeRockTV to celebrate: good news, good music, and good works that help us recognize and care for our neighbors.
We don’t have to know the whole story to contribute something good to the next chapter.
My prayer this morning is simple:
Lord, keep me rooted in You. Teach me to listen before I speak. Help me recognize the dignity of the people around me. Give me wisdom with my words, patience with what is unfinished, and courage to love through my actions.
Let the fruit of my life nourish someone else.
I love You, Jesus.
