Right here in Birmingham, a team of volunteers is putting kids and veterans back in motion. Iron City Trykes, formerly Birmingham AMBUCS, works with hospitals and physical therapists to fit each rider with a therapeutic tryke built for their body and their needs. Children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and spina bifida, along with adults and veterans living with disabilities, have all been served, and kids in all 67 Alabama counties have received one.
A tryke costs between $800 and $1,700. Families are asked for $100. Grants, sponsors, and people like you cover the rest.
Jesus never walked past the person who couldn’t get up. Again and again in the Gospels, He stopped, saw the one left on the sidelines, and restored them to movement and to community. A tryke isn’t a miracle, but it’s a picture of one: a child who couldn’t keep up with her brothers and sisters now riding beside them, a veteran who gave his strength for others getting some of it back. When we give so someone can move again, we get to take part in that kind of restoration.
