Where the Streets Have No Name — U2
From U2’s 1987 album The Joshua Tree, this song opens with a shimmering guitar that builds slowly like a sunrise. Bono has said it was inspired by Belfast, where the street you lived on could reveal your religion and your income.
Seen through a Christian lens, it is a longing for a place without labels, walls, or division, where people are known by love instead of status. That place is the kingdom of God. Until we get there, we can practice it here, treating every neighbor as someone Christ died for.
“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free… for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28
