Tripping Billies — Dave Matthews Band
Tripping Billies comes from Dave Matthews Band’s 1996 album Crash, and it’s been a concert favourite since the band’s early days in Charlottesville, Virginia. Its refrain is “Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die.”
Seen through a Christian lens, Tripping Billies is a celebration of friendship and being young, with a reminder that life is short. Scripture uses those same words as a warning about living only for today. Joy is a gift from God, and it means the most when we live it with eternity in view.
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
