The Pilgrim’s Progress — John Bunyan
Written by John Bunyan in 1678, partly while he sat in prison for preaching, The Pilgrim’s Progress follows Christian, a man carrying a heavy burden. He leaves the City of Destruction and sets out for the Celestial City.
Along the way he sinks in the Slough of Despond, faces temptation at Vanity Fair, and is locked in Doubting Castle by Giant Despair. At the cross, his burden finally rolls away. It is one of the greatest recovery stories ever written, a reminder that every believer is a pilgrim, and grace carries us home.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
