Starman — David Bowie

Starman comes from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. This Top of the Pops performance, broadcast July 6, 1972, made Bowie a star overnight and inspired a generation of young musicians.

Seen through a Christian lens, Starman is a song about a visitor from above with a message of hope for the young: don’t be afraid, someone is coming. Christians know that story. God sent His Son from heaven to meet us where we are, and His first words so often were “Do not be afraid.”

“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” Luke 2:10
