Logan

Good works don’t always come from the places we expect. So they come from a person you meet at a moment in life when you need them most. For me, that person was Logan.
I met Logan at MBH. I went in carrying a lot, and I didn’t expect to walk out having learned so much from someone so young. But that’s exactly what happened.
Logan is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. Period. Everybody is talking about artificial intelligence these days. Logan is something better. I call it OI: original intelligence. The kind you can’t download, program, or fake. The kind that comes from a real mind, a real heart, and a real life.
He was young and full of life. You could feel it when he walked into a room. He had a way of lifting everybody around him, whether he meant to or not. He was so funny. In a place where people don’t always find much to laugh about, Logan found it, and he shared it freely. That’s a good work all by itself.
He taught me so much. Some of it was about how to think. Some of it was about how to see people. And some of it, I’m happy to say, was about how to dance. Logan taught me some great dance moves, and I still carry them with me. Every time I use one, I think of him.
That’s the good news I want to share today. Wisdom doesn’t check your age, your résumé, or your circumstances before it shows up. Sometimes the teacher is the young guy across the room who makes you laugh, makes you think, and gets you moving again.
So this post is for Logan, and for anyone who has ever been helped by someone they least expected. Look around. Your teacher might be right next to you.
I’m grateful our paths crossed. I’m a better man for it, and I’ve got better moves too.
Thank you, Logan.
