This morning at Morning Manna, we were reading Luke 5:27–35. I had been pondering whether secular music belonged on WeRockTV. Then the conversation brought me back to a table.
Jesus calls Levi away from the receipt of custom. Levi follows Him, then prepares a great feast. Tax collectors and others sit down together with Jesus. The religious critics want to know why He eats and drinks with such company.
His answer reaches straight into the purpose of this little network.
Our assignment is to get sick people to the Doctor. A Savior.
I am not standing outside the room with a clipboard, deciding who has become good enough to enter. I need the Physician myself. Whatever welcome I offer begins with remembering the mercy that welcomed me.
The table becomes a place where people can encounter the Holy Spirit. A conversation, a story, an act of kindness, even a familiar song can become an invitation to draw closer and listen.
That helps me understand the place of music here. We will choose with care. Some songs name Jesus directly. Others give honest voice to longing, grief, friendship, joy, or the need to begin again. Those human experiences can open meaningful conversations about faith.
No song can save us. Jesus can.
Later in this passage, Jesus speaks of the bridegroom and the joy of His presence, while also acknowledging the days of fasting to come. There is room at this table for celebration and sorrow, for questions and repentance.
Good News. Good Music. Good Works. My hope is that these become ways of extending hospitality, with Christ at the center.
If you arrive carrying doubts, regrets, or a tune you cannot get out of your head, pull up a chair. I hope you find kindness here, truth spoken with humility, and an invitation to meet the One who calls us to follow Him.
There is still a seat for you, and there is still a seat for me. Let us make room for others.
“They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
Luke 5:31–32 (KJV)
