Jesus never told His followers to blend into the world. He told them to change it.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus used two ordinary things to explain an extraordinary calling: salt and light.
“Ye are the salt of the earth.” — Matthew 5:13 (KJV)
Salt preserves. Before refrigeration, it helped keep food from spoiling. It also brings out flavor.
Jesus was telling His followers that their presence should make a difference. Where there is corruption, bring integrity. Where there is bitterness, bring kindness. Where there is division, bring reconciliation.
Salt doesn’t have to announce itself. You recognize its presence by what it does.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” — Matthew 5:14 (KJV)
Light reveals what darkness conceals.
A single candle doesn’t eliminate every shadow, but it changes the room. It provides direction, exposes obstacles, and offers hope.
Jesus wasn’t asking His followers to become famous, powerful, or self-righteous. He was asking them to live in ways that make God’s goodness visible.
And here’s the beautiful part: light doesn’t need to fight darkness. It simply shines.
We live in a world that often rewards outrage over understanding, division over reconciliation, and appearances over authenticity.
Being salt and light means choosing another way.
It means telling the truth without cruelty. Forgiving when resentment would be easier. Helping someone who cannot repay you. Loving people who don’t agree with you.
And perhaps most importantly, it means remembering that we aren’t the source of the light.
God is.
Our job is to reflect it.
At We Rock TV, we believe good news, good music, and good works can help illuminate a world that desperately needs all three.
Because faith isn’t merely something we profess.
It’s something the world should experience through us.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
