Sometimes angels bring sandals.
I arrived at a difficult place in my life without even a pair of shoes. I was uncertain about what came next, and I did not know anyone around me. Then a stranger offered something I desperately needed: a little kindness.
She brought me a pair of sandals. She showed me how things worked. More importantly, she made me laugh. When the days felt long and my spirits were low, she reminded me that a person could still find a reason to smile.
There was no grand speech or dramatic rescue. Just a practical gift, a welcoming presence, and a friendship that made an unfamiliar place feel a little less lonely.
Eventually, life carried us in different directions. Months passed without a conversation. I thought about the people who had helped me through that season, but we had lost touch.
Then today, out of nowhere, a message appeared on Facebook. It was from that same friend. I cannot tell you how glad I was to hear from her. A few words on a screen brought back the memory of those sandals, those laughs, and the comfort of being seen when I needed it most.
Scripture says, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” That is Hebrews 13:2, and it feels especially close to home tonight.
I do not pretend to understand every turn in the road or every reason people cross our paths. But I believe the Lord works in mysterious ways. Sometimes grace arrives quietly, wearing an ordinary face and carrying exactly what we need.
This is not a story about a building or a difficult chapter. It is a story about what one human being can do for another. A small act of generosity can leave an impression that lasts far beyond the moment itself.
If someone has ever helped you find your footing, perhaps today is a good day to thank them. And if you have a chance to be that person for somebody else, do not underestimate the gift you can give.
Sometimes angels bring sandals. And sometimes, months later, they send a message just to say hello.
