WHEN FEAR SHOWS UP, PAY ATTENTION

Sometimes the most helpful lesson is the one projected on a classroom wall: “Possible Fear Triggers.”

Uncertainty. Painful memories. Expectations. Change. The fear of being judged. That little voice asking, “What if?”

I recognize plenty of those.

When life gets complicated, it can feel like every unanswered question needs an answer immediately. Every silence becomes a story. Every setback starts looking like the whole future.

But a feeling is not a prophecy.

This slide reminded me that fear is a natural response, and recognizing what stirs it up can help us understand ourselves with greater compassion.

For me, faith belongs in that conversation.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

I do not read that verse as a reason to shame anyone for feeling afraid. I receive it as encouragement to bring my fear to God and keep walking toward love, clarity, and courage.

Sometimes courage looks like asking for help.

Sometimes it looks like listening without defending yourself.

Sometimes it looks like showing up, admitting you are overwhelmed, and allowing someone trustworthy to walk beside you.

I am learning that I can acknowledge fear without handing it the microphone for the entire day.

I can ask: What am I facing? What am I imagining? What is one constructive step I can take right now?

I do not have to solve my whole life before lunch. Neither do you.

Today, I am grateful for opportunities to learn, people willing to help, and the grace to begin again.

If something in this picture sounds familiar, you are welcome in this conversation. There is no prize for pretending everything is easy.

Let us give one another room to be human, room to heal, and encouragement to take the next faithful step.

Fear may show up. We can still choose how we respond.
