How Concerned Doctors of Alabama Began — Rebecca Rogers with David Gornoski

Every organization has a beginning. Behind the name are people, conversations, questions, and a decision to get involved.

In this interview, Rebecca Rogers joins David Gornoski to discuss how Concerned Doctors of Alabama started. It is an opportunity to hear that story in Rebecca’s own words and revisit a chapter that became part of my life.

For me, this connection is personal. I built concerneddoctors.org, and Rebecca and David are also my partners in We Rock Network. Sharing this conversation brings together people and work that have helped shape the direction of WeRockTV.

When I look back on that period, I want to preserve the human story alongside the public discussion. Who stepped forward? What brought people together? How did an initial conversation become an organized effort? Those are the questions that make an origin story worth hearing.

Public debates can flatten people into labels. An interview gives us an opportunity to listen closely, consider someone’s perspective, and understand the experiences behind their involvement.

Listening also carries responsibility. We can hear someone’s account, ask thoughtful questions, and examine factual claims carefully. Respectful conversation and careful judgment belong together.

That is the spirit in which I am sharing this video.

I am grateful to Rebecca for telling her story and to David for making room for conversation. I am also grateful for the opportunity I had to contribute through the website.

Looking back helps me think about what comes next: how to communicate clearly, serve our neighbors, and make our work useful to the people who encounter it.

“Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” — James 1:19

That verse offers a starting point for any difficult conversation.

Watch Rebecca’s interview, hear her account of the beginnings of Concerned Doctors of Alabama, and share your reflections with patience and respect.

Our stories deserve attention. Our neighbors deserve kindness. And whatever work we take on, may we approach it with humility, honesty, and love.
