Edge of Seventeen — Stevie Nicks

Sometimes a song brings something to the surface that we were not expecting. A guitar riff, a voice, a rhythm, and suddenly we are thinking about life, loss, love, and the things we cannot explain.

Listening to Stevie Nicks sing “Edge of Seventeen,” I hear that restless energy. There is strength in her voice, but there is vulnerability too. That combination makes music powerful: it gives our hearts somewhere to put what our mouths cannot quite say.

The image of a white dove brings the Holy Spirit to my mind. That is my reflection as a listener, rather than a claim that this song was written as Christian worship. Music can open a door to prayer even when it comes from an unexpected place.

In the Gospel, the Spirit descends like a dove at the baptism of Jesus. For Christians, that image carries a beautiful reminder of God’s presence. We are not left to navigate every dark stretch, every hard conversation, or every uncertain tomorrow by ourselves.

Christ calls the Holy Spirit the Comforter. Sometimes comfort arrives as peace. Sometimes it arrives as conviction: the courage to admit we were wrong, ask forgiveness, make amends, and begin again.

I am learning that faith involves listening. Less insisting that I have every answer. More willingness to be taught. Less holding tightly to yesterday. More gratitude for the opportunity to live differently today.

So let this music move you. Remember someone you love. Give thanks for the people still beside you. Pray for the person you find hardest to forgive. Ask God for a heart that can receive correction without losing hope.

Holy Spirit, help us hear what matters beneath all the noise. Guide our words, steady our steps, and teach us to love with patience and truth.

Wherever this song takes your memories, may you find a moment to breathe, listen, and welcome God’s peace into the ordinary places of your life today.

Come, Holy Spirit. Lead us.

Good news. Good music. Good works.
