Maybe one biblical interpretation of “Black Hole Sun” is this:
Anything we place between ourselves and the true Light can become an idol.
Money.
Politics.
Power.
Technology.
Ego.
Fear.
Even our own image.
A black hole consumes light instead of reflecting it. Spiritually, that can symbolize the things that slowly consume truth, humility, love, and God’s presence in our lives.
The song always felt deeper than people realized. Almost like a cry for cleansing from illusion and artificiality.
“Black hole sun, won’t you come…”
Not a worship song to darkness — but maybe a desperate recognition of what happens when the world loses sight of the Light.
“But the Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” — Psalm 27:1
