Grey Street — Dave Matthews Band

Grey Street comes from Dave Matthews Band’s 2002 album Busted Stuff. Many of its songs grew out of the shelved Lillywhite Sessions, which fans had passed around for years. It tells the story of a woman who feels trapped in a grey, colourless life.

Seen through a Christian lens, Grey Street is about the hopelessness of trying to paint your own world bright. She wants to fill her life with colour, but every color she tries turns grey. Real hope doesn’t come from inside our own strength. God brings light into the dark places and makes all things new.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5
