Wheel in the Sky — Journey
Songs sound like miles passing beneath your wheels. Journey’s “Wheel in the Sky” carries that restless feeling: movement, distance, longing, and the uncertainty of what waits beyond the next bend.
Beneath the power of the music, I hear someone wanting to get home.
That is what gives this song its pull. The road can offer adventure, but it can also keep you away from the people and places that steady you. You can be moving and still feel stranded.
The guitar drives forward. The voice reaches outward. Together, they make uncertainty feel enormous enough to fill an arena.
For me, the turning wheel becomes an image of time. Days pass whether we feel ready for them or not. Seasons change. Plans shift. We discover that loving someone does not give us control over tomorrow.
But we still have choices today.
We can take responsibility for our actions. We can keep a promise, ask for help, offer an apology, or do the next thing with care. Small decisions matter, especially when the larger picture remains unclear.
Listening as a Christian, I think about the difference between wanting every answer and learning to trust God through an unfinished journey.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
A lamp gives us light for the steps before us. That is an encouragement when we cannot see very far ahead.
This is my own reflection alongside the song: uncertainty does not have to take away our ability to act with love.
If you are missing home, carrying regret, or wondering where life is leading, let the music give those feelings room. Then return to the day in front of you.
Take care of what has been entrusted to you. Accept encouragement. Be patient with the work of becoming someone you can respect.
The road continues. May we travel it with humility, courage, and grateful hearts.
