Animal Spirits: Let a Little Joy Loose

Some songs ask you to sit quietly and think. “Animal Spirits” by Vulfpeck makes you want to get out of your chair and remember you have a pulse.

This is Good Music for anybody who needs a little lift today.

There is something wonderful about a band that can be playful and precise at the same time. The groove has a spring in its step, and the whole thing feels like an invitation to stop carrying the world on your shoulders for a few minutes.

As a musician, I love that feeling: people listening to one another, finding the pocket, and making something together that nobody could make quite the same way alone.

That is a good lesson beyond the bandstand.

We spend so much time trying to control the next conversation, the next outcome, the next chapter. Sometimes we forget to enjoy the life happening right in front of us.

A song can bring us back.

For me, “Animal Spirits” is a reminder to make room for that spark. Laugh with somebody. Clap your hands. Call a friend. Let your kitchen become a dance floor, even if your dancing would never survive an audition.

Especially then.

From a Christian perspective, I hear an opportunity to remember that joy belongs in our lives alongside responsibility, prayer, and perseverance.

“A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance.” — Proverbs 15:13

I am sharing that as my reflection, rather than a claim about what the band intended. Good music gives us room to bring our own stories into the listening.

Today, mine includes gratitude for musicians who remind us how good it feels to be alive.

So here is your WeRockTV assignment: press play, turn it up a little, and give that worried forehead a break.

There is room for thoughtful conversation later. Right now, let the rhythm do a little talking.

Your feet might have something to say, too.

Go ahead.
