“God, I can’t do this alone.”
That’s the prayer this song brings out in me. Some days, those few words say everything.
Coach, our connection goes back to Brookwood Forest, when I was on the first mile relay team you ever coached. I was a young runner then. Today, I hear something deeper in the idea of running with endurance.
There are stretches of life where your legs get heavy, your confidence slips, and the next curve hides the finish line. I’ve been learning to ask God for help in those stretches—and to accept the people who show up beside me.
A relay gives that lesson a beautiful shape. You run your part, but you depend on other people. You learn to trust the hand reaching back for the baton.
Seeing you at the Mountain Brook track again reminded me how far those connections reach. Years pass, and there you are, still helping another generation find its stride.
Thank you for being part of my story, Coach. Thank you for the time you’ve given to so many young people and to this community.
“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus.” — Hebrews 12:1–2
God, I can’t do this alone. Help me take the next step—and be grateful for the people beside me.
