Spotlight: Producer John Sullivan

You may not know his name, but you’ve likely heard of his films. John Sullivan was one of the producers of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (2008), alongside Logan Craft and Walt Ruloff, with Ben Stein as host. The documentary followed Stein as he looked into scientists and educators who said they’d faced professional consequences for raising the idea of design in nature.

Sullivan explained why he made it: “We believe freedom of speech is worth fighting for.” He also said the team wanted to explore the big questions of where we came from and why we’re here, and found many people in academia felt they couldn’t talk about them.

His work didn’t stop there. His credits include 2016: Obama’s America (2012), America: Imagine the World Without Her (2014), Unplanned (2019), and Nefarious (2023). Earlier on, Ruloff met Sullivan and Craft while all three were doing master’s degrees at Regent College in Vancouver.
