Wish upon a star? George Washington got a promotion long after he’d joined them.
In 1976, America celebrated its 200th birthday by authorizing Washington’s posthumous appointment as General of the Armies of the United States, effective July 4.
You’ll sometimes hear him called a “six-star general.” That’s an unofficial way of describing his extraordinary place above the five-star ranks. His distinction was clear: first among all Army officers, past and present.
Talk about a performance review worth waiting for. 🇺🇸
But here’s what shines brightest to me: every star we celebrate has a whole sky around it.
Behind Washington stood soldiers enduring bitter winters, farmers growing food, craftspeople making supplies, and families carrying burdens history books can barely measure.
The top of the pyramid rests on every stone beneath it.
Star light, star bright,
May we keep freedom’s flame alight.
And when we wish upon a star,
Remember those who brought us this far.
We all want our moment to shine. May we also become a light that helps somebody else find their way.
⭐ Look up. Stay grounded. Every stone matters.
