Cracked pacifier on a stone altar before storm-tossed national flags

Why Do the Nations Rage? God Took Away Our Pacifier

“Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?” In this short, David Gornoski says the answer is simple: God took away humanity’s pacifier.

In the ancient world, people united by blaming and sacrificing a victim. Only one story got told, the one the priests wrote, and it said might makes right. Nobody heard the victim’s side.

The urge to scapegoat is still with us. We form cliques around shared enemies, then turn on our own over ever-stricter purity codes. But it no longer truly unites us. Since the cross, the victim’s voice can be heard.

Jesus became the final sacrifice, exposing the lie of the blame game and offering a peace built on love, not on a common enemy.
