Jesus Just Left Chicago — ZZ Top

Jesus Just Left Chicago comes from ZZ Top’s 1973 album Tres Hombres, where it follows right after Waitin’ for the Bus. It’s a slow, smoky blues that follows Jesus on a road trip across America, from Chicago down to New Orleans.

Seen through a Christian lens, it’s a blues about a Savior who keeps moving toward people. He doesn’t wait for us to clean up and find Him. He shows up in the bars, the back roads, and the blues towns, and as the song says, He’ll be there when we arrive.

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
