Some music brings you right back to the people you shared it with.
I saw Michael Hedges in Auburn with my friends Carlisle C. and Paul W. Listening to “The Double Planet” brings that concert to mind—and the gift of being there together.
Hedges made a guitar sound like a world of its own: rhythm, melody, bass, and space between the notes. Such imagination in two hands.
There’s a Birmingham connection, too: our own Mark Lanter played with Michael Hedges. A beautiful thread in a musical community I’m grateful to be part of.
Here’s to Michael, to old friends, and to music that stays with us long after the concert ends.
