The hardest part about “chicken hawks” is watching ordinary men carry extraordinary burdens while powerful people debate strategy from safe rooms far away from the consequences.

Men climb into helicopters, walk into deserts, jungles, and city streets, and risk everything beside their brothers — while politicians, consultants, media figures, and career power brokers often remain insulated from the cost of the decisions they help create.

Whether it was Battle of Mogadishu or any other conflict, the weight is almost always carried by young men and their families long after the speeches are over and the cameras disappear.

A nation should never forget the difference between those who bear the burden and those who merely talk about it.
