Hebron, Kentucky – Congressman Thomas Massie from Kentucky took the high road this week after President Donald Trump unloaded on him during a rally right in his own backyard. Trump called Massie a “complete and total disaster,” “disloyal,” and even “the worst person” in Congress while throwing his support behind Massie’s primary challenger, ex-Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein.
Massie, chatting with reporters outside his district office in Florence, just smiled and shrugged it off. “Look, I’ve got no hard feelings toward the president. He’s done big things for America, and I respect that,” he said. “I’m here for Kentucky folks—dealing with skyrocketing gas from the Iran mess and fertilizer prices killing our farmers. That’s what matters, not the name-calling.”
This beef isn’t new. It kicked off with Massie backing an Iran war powers vote last week and pushing to drop those Epstein files—stuff Trump hates. Still, even after Trump’s “get rid of this loser” line ahead of the May 19 primary, Massie stayed cool. “Kentuckians love Trump—I delivered him the highest votes here in ’24. Let’s team up on real conservative fights instead of tearing each other down,” he told the crowd, waving as cars honked by.
Folks watching the race say Massie’s playing it smart, looking steady next to Trump’s fire. Gallrein’s camp hasn’t weighed in yet, but this primary’s turning into a real MAGA showdown. One voter nearby nailed it: “Massie’s not stooping to that level. That’s real leadership.”
